Bio - Lori Brown

Lori spent most of her 30-year career in the Nova Scotia school system. She was a high school science teacher, registrar, and guidance counsellor while having leadership responsibilities in Inclusive Education, Advanced Placement, and the International Student Program.

Following a Bachelor of Science degree at Mount Allison University, she attended the University of Grenoble in France prior to returning to New Brunswick to complete a Bachelor of Education. While teaching, she realized her students required many things to be ready to learn. As a result, she completed a Master’s in Counselling at Acadia University, leading to 17 years in various counselling roles, including working with adults in private practice.

In 2015, Lori completed a Master’s in Diverse Learners culminating in a project used in high schools to address the needs of students with language-based learning disabilities. Concurrently, her energy and focus included raising money for a We to Me trip that involved accompanying a group of youth to Ecuador to build a school for underprivileged children.

Presently, Lori is finishing a Doctorate in Psychology with a dissertation focusing on Trauma-Informed Education. She feels privileged to be working on the traditional lands of the Gwich’in and Inuvialuit people. The opportunity to work with the students in the Beaufort-Delta is an honour for Lori.
